How to begin Wedding Planning | Podcast Ep #1

THE LOVE IS MAGIC PODCAST

Hi, I’m Chanelle with Love is Magic Photography. And today I want to talk to you about the five things you should do to begin wedding planning. So I know you’re probably super excited to go dress shopping and start looking at venues. But before you dive into all that fun stuff, make sure you get these five things out of the way first.

So number one would be to discuss what type of wedding the two of you want to have. This is anything from indoor or outdoor venue, a local or a destination venue. If you’re going to have a big guest list or a small intimate wedding, if you want to have a casual feel or more of a luxury feel, there are just so many different options. So first nail down exactly what you’re looking for in your wedding.

Number two would be to create a budget and set priorities, definitely do not start looking at venues until you set your budget because the last thing you want to happen is to fall in love with a venue only to find out it’s out of your price range. But on the other hand, if a dream venue is a priority for you, or maybe a photographer that you’ve been dreaming to photograph your day, if that’s your priority, then you can move things around in your budget to make sure that you get that dream venue or that dream photographer or other dream vendor.

Number three would be to create a guest list, you want to create a guest list a and these will be people that you want to come to the wedding 100% No matter what, and guest list B would be people that you would love to be there. But you might not be able to have them because of budget limitations or even your venue size limitations. So what you want to do is create RSVP cards with two different dates. So Group A would have dates earlier and group than Group B. And when you receive all of your RSVPs back from Group A if there are people that say they couldn’t come, you can then send out some of the invites, or the artists RSVP invites for Group B. And they already have a later date on them. So it’ll all work out pretty well.

Number four is to pick a venue and then a date in that order. So most venues tend to book out 12 to 18 months in advance. So sometimes it can be really hard to get that perfect date that you want. So if you pick a season before picking a date, that you’ll have a little bit more flexibility when you go into that venue to actually pick your date. And then another thing would be avoid holidays, and to just check around with family and make sure that you’re not stepping on anybody’s toes by booking a wedding date on somebody’s birthday or some big celebration your family was going to have and then number five would be to after you lock in that date to immediately go and choose your major vendors and this would be stuff like photographers, your DJ and florists just like the venue’s we tend to book out almost a year in advance. So if you have a dream photographer or a dream florist out there that you absolutely have to have at your wedding. As soon as you get a venue and a date, make sure and reach out to those people.

So that’s my five. Hopefully that was helpful for you guys. Let me know if there any questions that you have along with the beginning wedding planning and how this list worked for you.
