Hi, I’m Chanelle with Love is Magic Photography. And today I want to talk to you about four tips for hiring the best photographer for you. So the first thing you want to ask yourself is what is your favorite style. There are three major styles right now in the wedding industry. And those are light and airy, which is a film inspired look, that’s more pastel in tone. And then there’s moody and muted, which is more of a warmer, earthy tone. And then there’s my personal style, which is bright and clean. And it’s more colorful with natural skin tones and glowy sunsets.

So number two is you want to make sure that you actually like your photographer’s personality, you’re going to be spending more time with your photographer on your wedding day than with any other vendor. So you want to make sure that you feel comfortable with them, and that you know that they have your back. For me that comfortable feeling is what translates directly into really epic images. You also want to avoid photo mills. These are places where you’ll sit down and meet with one person, you’ll be super excited about your wedding. And then on the wedding day, a totally different photographer shows up that you’ve never even met before.

Number three is to be aware of shoot and burn photographers. So these tend to be a little bit on the more affordable side because they’re generally newer photographers. And what they do is they literally will shoot your photos, and then burn them onto a CD and give that to you immediately, without any editing without any color correction without removing distracting backgrounds or even blemishes. And there’s generally lighting issues throughout the images. So definitely avoid that.

Number four is to tread cautiously when you’re hiring friends and family. And really, the major reason for this is inevitably they’re going to miss moments because they’re catching up and mingling with your guests as well. When you hire professional photographers, we don’t put our cameras down until the day is done. And we’ve also been doing it for so long, like so personally. After nine years of weddings, I really have a sense of how things are happening, and just generally the order of events, and I’ve kind of developed a spidey sense for anticipating moments before they happen. And that’s just something that comes with a lot of experience in the wedding industry. So I hope that these four have been super helpful for you.
