ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS IN EDINBURGH
Looking for Edinburgh photo shoot locations? Edinburgh is a photographers playground filled with a beautiful history, amazing scenery and iconic literary ties like my favorite Harry Potter. Are you a local, a tourist just visiting for the week, or a couple looking to elope in Edinburgh? If you fit into any of those camps, this article is for you!
HERE’S A SHORT LIST OF EDINBURGH PHOTO SHOOT LOCATIONS AND THE BEST PHOTO SPOTS IN EDINBURGH
I always recommend mornings for most locations so that there are fewer people in the backgrounds of your photos. Sunset is the best light to photograph in but be aware that cloud coverage moves quickly and if the sun falls behind clouds, locations may photograph a lot darker. For high traffic tourist areas I recommend photos begin at 7am or 8am daily. This is a list of my favorite Edinburgh photo locations and my bucket list!
BEST EDINBURGH PHOTO SHOOT LOCATIONS
Dean Village – the most magical architecture in Edinburgh. This old mill reminds me of Beauty and the Beast.

Princes Street Gardens – Ross Fountain – famous park with a fountain and gorgeous views of Edinburgh Castle.

Princes Street Gardens – Scott Monument & Waverly Bridge – park with iconic Scott Monument and florals from April – September.

Circus Lane & Stockbridge – popular instagram spot with a curved cobblestone street and beautiful brick lofts.

Calton Hill – hill in the middle of Edinburgh with views of the city especially the Royal Mile skyline and Edinburgh Castle.

Arthur’s Seat / St Margaret’s Loch / St Anthony’s chapel ruin – perfect for a quiet spot on the edge of the city. The views from the summit are insane and you can enjoy a pint at the oldest pub in Edinburgh – Sheep Head Inn dating back to 1360

ROYAL MILE EDINBURGH PHOTO LOCATIONS
The Royal Mile is the most popular tourist area in Edinburgh, I recommend photos begin at 7am if you want fewer people in your backgrounds. There are so many beautiful spots. I’ll take you on a personal tour of Royal Mile and iconic Harry Potter locations. Photoshoots typically last 90 minutes but if you would like to take a full photo tour, plan for 3 hours. I stick to the upper part of Royal Mile for photo tours but can include other locations by request. A 3 hour photo tour would cover the following spots, 90 minute photoshoot locations marked with an *
- Cockburn Street
- The Milkman coffee shop
- Red phone booths
- Edinburgh City Chambers
- St. Giles Cathedral *
- Heart of Midlothian Mosaic
