I’m a hopeless romantic and proposals are the ultimate love stories! Proposing to the love of your life is as exciting as it is nerve-wracking at the same time. If you are thinking about popping the question, these surprise proposal tips are for you. I put so much of my heart in to documenting your surprise proposal. Over the years, I’ve captured so many love stories and surprise marriage proposals are among my favourite! Once you believe you and your partner are on the same page and you’ve secured a ring, its time to get planning! If you want detailed planning tips check this article from Brides.com.
Surprise Proposal Location and Timing
I encourage you to pick a location special to you like your favorite date night spot, the place you met, or you can choose from a variety of locations I have listed in my blog below. Take into consideration if your partner would rather have this moment shared with other people around or as private as possible as that will play a major part when it’s time to choose the location and time it will happen. Sunset is usually the most dreamy light but sunrise may be better for crowded tourist favorites.
Surprise Proposal Tips
Choose an outfit you feel comfortable going down on one knee wearing. Try it beforehand and test if you have free movement. Also try it with the ring in your pocket to make sure it’s not visible.
If you imagined wearing formal or nicer clothes for this moment but don’t want to give it away, consider having reservations that would require the attire.
Small details can make a big impact so don’t forget them. You could incorporate your partner’s favourite flowers, food or music into the proposal.
How I help you with your Surprise Proposal
There’s one thing that is common to all proposals I’ve captured: you will not remember big part of it. The nerves and the surprise will play with your memory and a lot of times the perfect speech you had rehearsed will not come as you wanted – this is normal and it happens often. For local locations I can scout them a few days before and offer guidance on where to stand and best timing based on the light in the location. My job as a photographer is to document your emotions and provide you the ability to relive these moments 5, 10 and 20 years from now.
I hope you enjoyed my proposal tips. I am so thankful for the wonderful people that hire me and support my passion! If you are a couple wanting photos of your proposal or wedding, I’d love to be your photographer. Fill out the contact form on my website, and let’s make memories!
