Known for its stunning ocean views and unique rock formations, this picturesque beach provides a romantic backdrop for your vows. With the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun, you’ll create unforgettable memories as you celebrate your love in a serene and beautiful environment. Whether you choose a simple ceremony at sunset or a more elaborate setup, Windansea Beach captures the essence of romance and adventure for couples looking to tie the knot away from the traditional wedding scene.

Eloping at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego is a dream come true for couples seeking a breathtakingly beautiful and intimate setting. With its dramatic coastal bluffs, stunning ocean views, and vibrant sunsets, this iconic location creates a romantic backdrop for your vows. The sound of crashing waves and the golden light of dusk add to the magic of the moment, making it a perfect spot for a memorable ceremony. Whether you want a simple, candid exchange of vows or a more elaborate setup, Sunset Cliffs offers a stunning and serene atmosphere to celebrate your love.

Balboa Park

Eloping at Balboa Park in San Diego provides a stunning and vibrant backdrop for your special day. This expansive park is home to beautiful gardens, historic architecture, and enchanting pathways, making it perfect for an intimate ceremony. With venues like the iconic Botanical Building or the picturesque Rose Garden, you’ll find countless picturesque spots for your vows. The park’s diverse landscapes and rich cultural atmosphere create a romantic setting that will make your elopement unforgettable. Whether you prefer a quiet corner or a more lively scene, Balboa Park offers the ideal location to celebrate your love.

SAN DIEGO ELOPEMENT PERMITS

Eloping in San Diego requires a special permit if you plan to hold your ceremony in public areas like parks or beaches, including popular spots like Sunset Cliffs or Balboa Park. The permit fee typically ranges from $100 to $300, depending on the location and specific requirements. To file for the permit, you’ll need to complete an application through the City of San Diego’s Parks and Recreation Department or the appropriate governing body for the area. It’s best to apply at least a few weeks in advance, as processing times can vary. Be sure to check for any additional regulations or restrictions at your chosen site to ensure a smooth and memorable elopement!

CALIFORNIA MARRIAGE LICENSES

To elope on a San Diego beach, you need a marriage license from San Diego County, apply online through the San Diego County Clerk’s website, or visit an office in person. The application fee is about $60, and the license is valid immediately upon issuance. Processing times may vary, so be sure to apply a few days in advance of your planned wedding date. For the most up-to-date information and requirements, refer to the county website.

SAN DIEGO ELOPEMENT PLANNING TIPS & IDEAS

Weddings on the beach can be simple events without extravagant set ups. Let the beach be your decor and add modern details, fun color palettes and bold floral pieces to create something truly unique.

The ceremony permit does not allow your event to prohibit other beach visitors from using your chosen location (like surfers walking through the background) nor does it guarantee you a specific site. I recommend sunrise or morning ceremony timing in high traffic areas.

Car-pooling is recommended as parking is limited.

Keep in mind there’s not much cell service at the beach, so make sure you download maps and make sure everyone in your photo shoot group knows where to go!

Pack a picnic and small bottle of Champagne to pop and celebrate your nuptials with.

Sunblock is a MUST during the summer and fall months.

SAN DIEGO ELOPEMENT TIMELINE

I always recommend eloping at sunrise or sunset for a San Diego elopement. There are typically less people out on the beach at sunrise and it is the best way to avoid the summer heat. A major plus is you’ll receive more privacy, even if it is one of the more popular beach in the park.

Most of the time, couples book a local AirBnB to get ready in, have a first look there, as well as family portraits and then we head over to the beach for the ceremony and newlywed portraits.

San Diego Elopement timelines always look a little differently based on the weather, time of year, and where we begin the day. If you are getting ready at an Airbnb make sure it is within a 15 minute drive of the location you choose. First decide where you want to get married in San Diego, then choose your getting ready location and any other special activities you want captured. And I will create a custom timeline for sunset, sunrise or early morning depending on the season and popularity of the locations.
