Love is Magic Photography

Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding Photography | A Colourful City Wedding at City Chambers & Dragonfly

There’s something I magical about an Edinburgh City Chambers wedding.

Maybe it’s because you can get married right in the middle of the Old Town, step outside onto the Royal Mile, wander through some of the most beautiful streets in Edinburgh for your newlywed portraits, and then carry the celebrations somewhere completely different afterwards.

This wedding was exactly that. A beautiful ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers, followed by portraits around the Royal Mile and a wonderfully chaotic, colourful celebration at Dragonfly.

Getting married at Edinburgh City Chambers

Located right on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh City Chambers is one of those wedding venues where the city itself becomes part of your wedding photographs. The building dates back to the 18th century and has all the historic grandeur you’d expect from an Edinburgh landmark, while still being a wonderfully practical place to have a civil ceremony.

Why Edinburgh City Chambers is perfect for relaxed city weddings:

  • An iconic Edinburgh setting right on the Royal Mile
  • Beautiful historic architecture for photographs
  • Multiple ceremony rooms to choose from
  • Easy access to Edinburgh Old Town for portraits
  • Endless photo opportunities within walking distance
  • The flexibility to have a small ceremony and celebrate elsewhere afterwards
  • A city backdrop that makes your wedding feel uniquely Edinburgh

And because you’re already in the centre of Edinburgh, you can make the rest of the day whatever you want it to be.

A fancy hotel. A restaurant. A pub.

Or, like this couple, a seriously fun party at Dragonfly cocktail bar.

Wedding portraits on the Royal Mile

This is one of the huge advantages of getting married at City Chambers: you don’t need to go anywhere to find incredible backdrops. The Royal Mile is right there. Historic stone buildings, closes, archways, cobbled streets and all the wonderfully chaotic energy of Edinburgh becomes part of your wedding gallery!

And I love photographing couples in this environment. Rather than stopping for a series of overly formal poses, we’ll walk, we’ll chat, we’ll laugh, we’ll explore.

Your Edinburgh wedding photos can feel like an adventure

One of the things I love most about City Chambers weddings is how easy it is to build a little adventure into the day.

You can have your ceremony, step outside for photographs, wander along the Royal Mile, stop for a drink, explore some of Edinburgh’s closes and streets, and then head somewhere completely different for your reception.

That’s exactly what happened here.

The day moves from City Chambers to the architecture of the Old Town, then into the wonderfully atmospheric Dragonfly cocktail bar.

From City Chambers to cocktails at Dragonfly

Dragonfly is Edinburgh’s oldest cocktail bar and sits just up from the Grassmarket in an old fire station, with a dramatic double-height bar, chandeliers, greenery and plenty of quirky details.

It was the perfect setting for Ailsa & John. The elegant City Chambers ceremony gave way to cocktails, colourful details, laughter, hugs, drinks and a room full of people who were very ready to celebrate.

There were tiny wedding cakes individually boxed up, so that everyone could take home a piece of cake. But the best part of the night was the close up magician. He wowed and stunned everyone and I was able to get so many photos of guests laughing in awe!
